A SAHM? What’s a SAHM, you may be asking. Well, me. I am a SAHM. I get to stay at home and I’m a mom. It’s such a cool job that we even get our own acronym! Now, I know that you may also be thinking that I’ve been neglecting you and you’d be right, but it isn’t because I don’t care, but because I am so busy being that new acronym! Let’s start a few weeks back, shall we?

A few months ago I expressed my desire not return to work once my Maternity Leave was finished. The Dad went over our budget, worked out the logistics and gave me the go-ahead to let my boss know that I would not be returning to my role. At some point, when you are working strictly for others to watch your children AND it’s not something that brings you joy, you need to make a change and I was lucky enough that this was a possibility for our family.

So, the day before Passover started, we took all of GreenBean’s things from his daycare and said a sad farewell to his teachers. After that followed a week of all three boys home and no bread to help me cope with that craziness and schedule-busting insanity. After the holiday was finished, Peanut went back to school and I was left to start homeschooling GreenBean and Boo. Now, I don’t speak Hebrew, so that part of their education is as much of a learning experience for me as it is for them!

Each morning, after The Dad and Peanut leave for work and school, GreenBean, Boo and I get ready and start our day. We begin with davening (praying), which involves a lot of singing, repeated requests for “criss-cross applesauce” and demands for The Wiggles cd. Following that we move on to Hebrew circle time and finish off with English circle time and stories. A great resource for us has been PJ Library; we get mail from them about once a month and the books are all Jewish educational stories. I’m also quite lucky to have a couple of teachers in my life that have provided me with a lot of materials and advice.

There is honestly nothing more rewarding for me than all of this extra time I have been able to spend with GreenBean and Boo. We go to the park in the middle of the day, attend circle time at the Jewish Family Resource Centre and plan on utilizing our Canada’s Wonderland passes as frequently as possible this summer. 

We are all learning together and I no longer feel like I am missing out on big milestones in their lives. I know that not everyone can or wants to do this, but for me, there is absolutely nowhere else that I’d rather be than on our new blue & white rug, learning about the weather and whether anyone knows the Muffin Man. 

In conclusion, I hope that you can forgive me for falling off of my blogging roll, but we were busy making memories. I’m sure you can understand.
